SUBMIT

Poets & Traitors Press is currently seeking submissions for full-length hybrid books of original and translated poetry.

Guidelines

  • Manuscripts should be roughly half the author’s own original poetry (in English) and half translations of another poet into English. Translations of one’s own work will not be considered.

  • Collections should demonstrate a dialogue between the original and translated work. Resonance and tension between the original and translated poems are key—we seek to showcase writers whose influences transcend linguistic and physical borders.

  • Full manuscripts should be between 50 and 120 pages, including a brief introduction that illustrates the connections between the author's own poetry and the poetry she is translating.

How to submit:

  • Applications should include a cover letter introducing both the author and the translatee, up to ten pages of original poetry, and up to ten pages of translated poetry.

  • All materials may be emailed as Word or PDF documents to poetstraitors [at] gmail.

Please note:

  • Co-translations are acceptable, but we do expect the author to understand the source language from which they are working.

  • If the translated work is not in the public domain, the author should include verification of availability of rights.

  • Authors from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to submit. We are particularly interested in reading submissions from women and non-binary writers, writers of color, and others whose work and experience are often excluded from the canon.

  • Submissions are reviewed between August and December. All submissions will receive a final decision by January 1.

Our books are 6x9, perfect-bound paperbacks with matte color covers, and are currently available on Amazon, in select independent book stores, and at PTP events and readings. As payment, authors will receive 50 copies of their book from each print run of 120 copies or more. Living translatees or their estates will receive 15 copies per print run. We do not accept submission fees.

All queries may be directed to poetstraitors [at] gmail.
